We are golden years hikers out for exercise, and walk at good pace for our age.
Most hikes last about 3 to 4 hours, and are on steep, uneven, rocky and open space terrain.
Expect to do 4 to 7 miles with 700 to 1600 feet of cumulative climb.
To participate, you should be good health and in good physical shape.
Recommend you bring 1-2 quarts of water and wear low-rise boots with lug soles, as a minimum.
Wear a hat and/or dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
When needed, wear sun block and use insect repellent.
Our hikes are frequently in the immediate vicinity of poison oak.
Be on the lookout for rattlesnakes and ticks; it is rare but possible to encounter coyotes, mountain lions or bobcats.
These hikes are unsupervised, and the leader is a volunteer without any special training.
You follow the leader at your own risk, and you are responsible for yourself.
We try to hike as a group. You are expected to maintain line-of-sight contact with other members of the group.
If you are falling way behind or if you are too tired to continue, you should probably go back, although
we may be waiting ahead. If you find yourself way ahead, you should wait for us at any junction. If you need help, ask.
There are frequent short water stops with time for quick snacks, but we occasionally do brunch after the hike.
Weather links are provided, and an attempt is made to avoid unacceptable weather conditions.
But you are responsible for your own weather/temperature research, and basing it on your decision to hike.
Participation in these hikes implies your acceptance of these Terms & Conditions and that you release Golden Canyon Hikers, the hike planner and the hike leader from all liability.
